Strategy No. 2 – Support your child in developing a Growth Mindset
A growth mindset is having a belief that intelligence and ability grow over time, as opposed to something that is set. To develop a growth mindset in your child you need to focus on praising progress, learning and effort rather than ability.
So, don’t use too much of this kind of praise: “You’re so clever” “Look at how smart you are, you did that so fast.” “You’re good at maths.” Rather, use praise like this:
