Kellyville year 5's join Oatlands for a Old fashioned experience!
Year 5 had looked forward to their Gold! Incursion at Oatlands for many weeks, so on Wednesday turned out to be a very eventful and exciting day!
The students learned a lot about uses fo gold, bushrangers, women's roles in the Colonial era, licence hunts and miner's techniques through watching an interactive show by 'Ellen' and 'Lucky'. It was great to see alll of the Year 5 members challenging themselves to sing songs like 'Bound for South Australia' with the characters Ellen and Lucky. The boys particularity enjoyed it when the 'Police Troopers' came around to do their Gold Licence checks!
After lunch, the students liked seeing the differences of what school was like for children at school in 1856. The year 5classroom was quickly transformed into an old classroom, with slates and chalk on the desks. However, all students were quick to agree that they are glad they are schooled in today's times!
