Career Advantage Program

The M.E.T. School CAREER ADVANTAGE PROGRAMME

What is CAP?

The Career Advantage Programme (CAP) provides all students with the opportunity to gain the skills and aptitude to achieve rapid success in their post-school careers.

The CAP does this by:

  1. Providing a selection of professional training courses that can be completed alongside senior school studies

  2. Analysing the capability of each student professionally to ensure the student can effectively complete the courses

  3. Sponsorship for students to carry out extra-curricular studies in the last 2 years of school

The CAP Curriculum

CAP students are offered a range of courses from Diploma courses to career skills based study.

For CAP students, the diploma type courses provide a theoretical and academic rigor which underpins the students’ academic
programme and the career skills based study provides practical, real-world approaches to learning and helps them to develop skills and competencies required for lifelong learning.

Why is CAP Important?

There is an increasing awareness globally that high school studies alone are not adequately preparing students for the modern workforce. The Career Advantage Programme is aimed at equipping our children with the necessary skills to bring positive benefits to our businesses from day one.

“A recent Gallup poll affirmed employer concern. Only one in ten business leaders strongly agreed that institutions were graduating students with the skills and competencies their businesses needed” – Forbes Magazine, August 2014

“Unless we in schools take particular actions to help students transfer their skills, students won’t be successful in the workplace” - Ian Chubb, Chief Scientist of Australia, December 2014

“A key challenge for … senior secondary education is how to develop and provide high-quality and authentic workplace and career exploration as an embedded and fundamental part of the secondary school curriculum” - Australian Government, National Vocational Education & Training Research Program, December 2014

It’s a pressing problem and the Career Advantage Programme is moving ahead to strengthen the position of students and businesses that take advantage of this opportunity.

Comments from Open Polytech of New Zealand lecturer for 560 Business Communication and 72140 Business Communication (Degree course):

”The results we are getting are bizarre since they should be struggling, and we are not sure how they are managing it, but we are pleased with the results coming through.  They are getting A’s yet still have their school responsibilities. I guess it is because they are the top level students from your school”.

”The problem with the schooling system now is they leave school, start tertiary or uni, and then at 30 they have a student loan, no house, and still little idea of how the real business world works”.
