Head of Department
Oakwood School is seeking to appoint an experienced and dedicated Head of Department / Business Teacher for its Launceston campus. The role is permanent full-time, and available to start as soon as possible.
This role will be Head of Department for a range of subjects, including Business, English, Humanities and LOTE for our small School of approx 140 students, across 3 campus locations. Although the successful candidate will not need to be a subject matter expert across all of these subject areas, they will need to be comfortable in collaborating with the subject teachers for these subjects, and leading their team through mentoring and coaching, using the syllabus documents to ensure the successful delivery of the school curriculum.
This role is responsible for preparing and publishing the subject work program and assessment program, the preparation, moderation and marking of assessment items, contribution to the preparation of reports and student submissions, facilitation of team meetings and ensuring deadlines are met and the subject course delivery goals are achieved.
In terms of the teaching element of this role, this role will have responsibility for delivery of the business teaching function across our secondary school. Specifically, the successful candidate will possess the ability to teach the following:
In this role, you will be required to prepare all daily lessons and unit plans of work in accordance with syllabus requirements for the business subjects, plan collaboratively with subject teaching teams, evaluate and report on the progress of students and discuss individual performance and problems with students and their parents. This role will involve classroom teaching, as well as teaching via video conferencing to our other campuses in Tasmania.
Whilst this role is based in Launceston, oversight of the departments will involve three campuses across Tasmania (Launceston, Devonport and Hobart), and the role will have responsibility for the leadership and coordination of approximately 4 staff members.
The ideal candidate will be a team player, have a genuine love of teaching, possess a "can do" attitude and ability to be flexible within a dynamic workplace environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in stepping away from traditional classroom teaching practices, to embrace modern teaching methods and technologies including video conferencing and online resources.
As the school has a strong faith based approach to life and learning, the successful applicant will also need to be able to respect and support this aspect of the lives of the students.
The successful candidate will have relevant teaching experience and will hold relevant qualifications and a current teacher registration certificate within Tasmania (or willingness to obtain).
